Celebrate the Life ofRichard Gladwell
On Sunday afternoon, November 1, you are invited to come together with the community to celebrate of the life of Richard Gladwell, host of With Heart and Voice, who passed away on October 15, 2009. The Evensong Celebration will be held at Asbury First United Methodist Church on East Avenue.
Choirs from Asbury Church, Christ Church, Third Presbyterian Church, Downtown United Presbyterian, Incarnate Word Lutheran Church, Sacred Heart Cathedral, Saint Anne Church, Saint Luke Church and Saint Paul Church will participate in the traditional Anglican liturgy.The music will include Parry: I was glad; Stanford: Magnificat and Nunc dimittis in G; Brahms: How lovely is Thy dwelling place; and Cary Ratcliff: Praise God with heart and voice. The prelude begins at 3:30 p.m. and will be offered by the Emerald Brass Quintet and Madrigalia. Evensong service begins at 4:00 p.m. A reception will follow in The Gathering Space.Please join us to celebrate the life of the man who brought so much music to the community. There is no charge; a freewill offering will be taken to defray expenses.

I would go just to hear "I was Glad" by Sir Hubert Parry.At the end those high B flats in the sopranos just make your spine tingle. Richard was very High Church Anglican, a consummate gentleman and a good host. I don't think we could find anyone like that nowadays, do you? If so, who? Sunday mornings I always listened to WXXI at 8 a.m. for his program.
I hope they keep it on. Someone said they might do re-runs.

LOL I would love to. I do have the required "massive collection" of sacred music. I'm content with having my little music segment to the right side of the screen, though.
However, if anyone from WXXI happens to be reading this, give me a call. ;-)
We could do it together. I've been listening to classical music since it was WBFB in the early 60s. You have to admit that Rochester is the best city to be in if you like classical music. I went to the EROI concert at Christ Church last night and was absolutely taken aback by the Bach program. Professor Porter did Bach's Passacaglia and Fugue in CMinor. Really a very excellent concert. Higgs and Davidsson performed also.
Where are these classical concerts advertised? I am about to join the Rochester Theater Organ Society. I understand they have excellent concerts. Would be interested in others.
