"Dominique" by the Singing Nun
This song was wildly popular in 1963. Her name in religion was Sister Luc Gabrielle. She entered the Dominican Convent in Fichermont, Belgium. The novelty was, I believe, that a nun was singing and with a guitar, no less. Her life ended very tragically. Pray for her.
Immediately below is the refrain:
Dominique, nique, nique
S'en allait tout simplement,
Routier pauvre et chantant
En tous chemins, en tous lieux
Il ne parle que du bon Dieu.
A l'époque où Jean Sans Terre
D'Angleterre était roi,
Dominique, notre Père,
Combattit les Albigeois.
(To Refrain)
Certain jour un hérétique
Par des ronces le conduit,
Mais notre Père Dominique
Par sa joie le convertit.
(To Refrain)
Ni chameau, ni diligence,
Il parcourt l'Europe à pied.
Scandinavie ou Provence
Dans la sainte pauvreté.
(To Refrain)
Enflamma de toute écoles
Filles et garçons pleins d'ardeur,
Et pour semer la Parole
Inventa les Frères Prêcheurs.
(To Refrain)
Chez Dominique et Ses Frères
Le pain s'en vint à manquer
Et deux anges se présentèrent,
Portant deux grands pains dorés.
(To Refrain)
Dominique vit en rêve
Les prêcheurs du monde entier,
Sous le manteau de la Vierge
En grand nombre rassemblés.
(To Refrain)
Dominique, mon bon Père,
Garde-nous simples et gais
Pour annoncer à nos frères
La Vie et La Vérité.

To Bishop Clark, From His Humble Servants:
"Prince of degredations, bought and sold,
These verses, written in your crumbling sty,
Proclaim the faith that I have held and hold,
And publish that in which I mean to die."
These verses, written in your crumbling sty,
Proclaim the faith that I have held and hold,
And publish that in which I mean to die."

Nous devons prier pour l'âme de cette dame. Grace à Dieu, cependant, pour cette chanson vivante et fidèle.
I couldn't resist. It's been a while since I pulled out my French.
There was a foreign film released this year on the life of Jeanine Deckers, the former nun who was "The Singing Nun." The title of it is "Soeur Sourire."
The former nun died (suicide)at the young age of 51. Such a tragedy. Go to Wikipedia for the whole sad story.
IC - Do you know the name of the film?
The name of the film is "Soeur Sourire" and was released in April of this year in Europe. A reviewer said that it was a "dark film" on the life of Jeanine Deckers, the former singing nun.
The name of the film is SOEUR SOURIRE.means Sister smile. The male lead is Ricardo Montalban. I think Debbie Reynolds played her part in a movie that did not get anywhere.
Very sad story.
Sorry INTERSTATE. You must have posted minutes before me.
Good Catholics think alike.
Can someone translate the words?
Dominique, nique, nique
Goes along very simply
Traveling in poverty and singing.
On every road, in every place,
He just talks about the Lord,
He just talks about the Lord.
In the age when John Lackland
Was the king of England,
Our father, Dominique,
Fought the Albigensians.
Dominique, nique, nique
Goes along very simply
Traveling in poverty and singing.
On every road, in every place,
He just talks about the Lord,
He just talks about the Lord.
One day a heretic
Led him through the brambles,
But our father, Dominique,
Through his own joy, converted him.
Dominique, nique, nique
Goes along very simply
Traveling in poverty and singing.
On every road, in every place,
He just talks about the Lord,
He just talks about the Lord.
Without a camel or a coach,
He travelled Europe on foot,
Scandinavia and Provence,
In saintly poverty.
Dominique, nique, nique
Goes along very simply
Traveling in poverty and singing.
On every road, in every place,
He just talks about the Lord,
He just talks about the Lord.
He enflamed with ardor
Boys and girls of every school,
And by sowing the word
He founded the Brother Preachers.
Dominique, nique, nique
Goes along very simply
Traveling in poverty and singing.
On every road, in every place,
He just talks about the Lord,
He just talks about the Lord.
In the home of Dominique and his brothers,
Bread started becoming scarce,
And two angels presented themselves,
Bearing two great golden loaves.
Dominique, nique, nique
Goes along very simply
Traveling in poverty and singing.
On every road, in every place,
He just talks about the Lord,
He just talks about the Lord.
Dominique saw in a dream
The preachers of the whole world
Under the mantle of the Virgin
In great number assembled.
Dominique, nique, nique
Goes along very simply
Traveling in poverty and singing.
On every road, in every place,
He just talks about the Lord,
He just talks about the Lord.
Dominique, my good Father,
Keep us simple and happy
By announcing to our brothers
The Way and the Truth.
Dominique, nique, nique
Goes along very simply
Traveling in poverty and singing.
On every road, in every place,
He just talks about the Lord,
He just talks about the Lord.
I'm not sure whether it came through or not, but it is a song about Saint Dominic.
Thanks
