I know many people who read this blog attend Our Lady of Victory. Here are a few pictures from yesteryear. The rectory seems to have more lawn today than then. Who ever does the gardening at OLV has done a really beautiful job. The garden is easy on the eyes. The picture that shows St. Joseph's Church is looking east from Our Lady of Victory. It must have been a somewhat residential area back when.

They must have removed some of the parking lot to make room for the garden next to the church. Nice pics.
The first image of Our Lady of Victory in the post is from the 1890s. Here is one from 1926: click here.
A number of differences can be seen between the two images of OLV from the 1890s to 1926:
-A new altar rail has been installed
-The statues above the side shrines are gone
-The paintings on the back wall of the sanctuary are gone, and have been replaced by either painted on designs, or wallpaper
-There's a new lighting system hanging above the front of the church
-The left shrine is completely different (and is different again in the modern day OLV, where a painting is now located there)
-A few statues have been added to the front of the church
-A new pulpit has been installed
-The reredo has been painted white
-A lot of cloths have been hung from the ceiling (something seen in a lot of historic images of churches)
So many changes in such a short period of time.

Often the Belgians would use tapestries to decorate their churches.
It looks like in the 1926 picture there is a frontal hanging on the altar.
I wish Father A would reinstall the altar rail for Holy Communion. He could actually say the Tridentine Mass at the High Altar too. Everything is stll intact.

Choir , You are right on with the dates. I enlarged the picture and I am quite sure the 3rd car in is a 1926 Ford Model T Roadster Convertibile. An extraordinary amount of time must have gone in to this presentation the past few days. I am going to copy the pictures of OLV and tomorrow night it will be interesting to bring them with me to see the changes. Thanks.
Sister Emily - Please leave your comments about what has changed. I'll be at OLV in the morning. In the apse I always thought a nice trompe d'oeil would be nice of some scene in the life of Our Blessed Lady.
